Do you remember what it was like as a kid when all those adults would tower over you with smiling faces and ask, “what do you want to be when you are older?“ and you would stare up at these giant people with a blank expression? Or perhaps you were like me and already had dreams and was more than happy to begin unloading A.L.Lof them to the poor sap who didn’t even realize what they had asked!
It isn’t wrong to have dreams and visions for the future, but when we have all these things without having an anchoring faith in God to be the one who guides the way, we fall down a very slippery slope. And one that can be very challenging to get out of.
It doesn’t matter whether you are an idealist, a pragmatist, a planner or a dreamer, every girl would have definitely faced moments in life where they just wanted to script certain parts of life out and rejected giving God control over their lives. But even though it is sooooo normal to do this, being His children, we weren’t created to live this way!
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8-9
He knows it all. He sees it all. And if His wisdom is beyond our understanding, then surely we can trust our God to be much better at crafting out our life story than us! And as He is works for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28), we can rest assured knowing that His plan for us is always good!

For the The Girl Who Relishes Control
Our life experiences have probably taught us that other people let us down, that we will end up hurt, rejected and broken from trusting too easily. So, when a being like God comes to us and seeks after our unconditional trust in Him, we turn Him away because we trust ourselves to have our best interests at heart more than He does.
But the problem with being a girl who relishes control is that we forget about who God really is. He is the master designer, the ultimate creator and the altogether perfect, and loving Father who always has our back! So when imperfect people try to take control of their own lives, they make imperfect plans and have imperfect outcomes! BUT when we relinquish all control of our lives to the one who knows it all and who loves us deeply, we have the perfect author of our beautifully crafted story! So here is to the top three reasons why you can trust God to write your story!

Why You Can Trust God to Write Your Story
Why You Can Trust God to Write Your Story Fact #1: It is about Him, not us
Growing up, I loved to imagine that I was the main character of my own life story. Nothing filled me with more delight and genuine joy and happiness than when I spent my free time dreaming, imagining and creating a story within my mind about the future. But my life isn’t supposed to be about me, the people around me aren’t meant to be supporting characters to me and God is actually the star of the show.
But, the issue with that was that too often we can get caught up in the idea that our life is about us – and it isn’t! It’s about Him! The wonderful, loving, almighty God who created us with genuine affection and care! Without Him, none of us would have a story, because ultimately, at the end of it all, what would our story be about and what would the point of our story even be?
Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord.
Jeremiah 9:23-24
God doesn’t want us to simply invite Him to be a supporting character of our lives. He wants to be the central character. He isn’t asking us to just invite Him into our lives, but to completely surrender ourselves fully and completely to Him! Our Father wants us to realise that pleasing and bringing glory to Him is the most powerful thing that you can possibly do with your life!
Why You Can Trust God to Write Your Story Fact #2: Our story is part of a much larger story
In an age of individualism, where we are taught that everything revolves around “me”, as I look on, I began realising that our stories is not really about us. I have realised that my story is only a very small chapter of a much larger book and that my story is only meaningful when it is in relationship with all these other stories! It is so humbling to realise that God’s story is so much more than my own and that my story is able to contribute to a much grander design!
After all, one common theme across every book in the Bible is salvation. Every book in the Bible has underlying themes where it points to the salvation offered by the one who will take up the cross for us and carry the weight of the world on their shoulders. Our God is truly good! 🙂 Each book in the Bible by itself would not be as powerful and meaningful if it did not all work in relation to one another to contribute to the much bigger story – God’s grace and love for the fallen world.
So take delight in the fact that your life is worth something! One of the best reasons why you can trust God to write your story is because you aren’t just a mass of atoms destined to be forgotten. The work that God does through your life has a rippling effect that only goes on to play a part in a much larger story! You, my sweet friend, aren’t enough on your own, but you contribute to something much greater than yourself! And that is something that we should all take delight in!

Why You Can Trust God to Write Your Story Fact #3: He sees everything
I have often imagined what it would be like if I were a character in a book and how the reader would view the situations that I have been in and what they would do if they were in my place! It makes me realize that being the reader and not the author, limits my knowledge of exactly how everything turns out. Being the reader, I would often wonder why certain things keep happening to a specific character and perhaps why they chose to respond in a certain way, but it is when more and more details of the character’s life are revealed, it makes more and more sense.
Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.
Psalm 147:5
And the truth is, our life is the character, we are the readers and God is the author. From our limited perspective, we often wonder why God won’t just listen to our plans for our lives. We, as the readers, keep wanting to direct the character’s story down a certain path but we forget that there is an author. This author knows exactly what is coming towards the character and so He is the one who will best be able to lead the character’s story so that everything falls into place.
His unknown ways might not always make sense to us in the moment, but as more and more details of our lives are exposed, the more and more we can take delight that He knows what is coming and He will be there every step of the way to lead us! God sovereignly and purposefully ordains and orchestrates the circumstances of our lives. There is no plot twist in your story that He is unaware of or that He can’t overcome. How GREAT is HE? 🙂

The Secret to a Story Written by God
Letting Go of the Pen
When I was just 8 years old, I remember holding a Rubik’s cube in my hand and felt completely defeated on how to solve it. I noticed that the Rubik’s cube that I was holding in my hand had coloured stickers on it instead of the typical glued-on tiles, so, I decided that I would peel each and every one of the stickers off so that I could stick them back on and ‘solve the Rubik’s cube’. Yes, I was a lil’ cheater. I know! >.<
But my method of solving the Rubik’s cube was by twisting and manipulating my circumstances around me so that I could get the outcome that I wanted. (And just FYI, till this day I have still never actually solved a Rubik’s cube!).
When we try and wrestle with God for the pen, we end up trying to craft a story written by us and not Him. We fight for controlby twisting situations and circumstances so that we get the outcome that we want, even if it isn’t the outcome that was meant to be.
We all desire control over our lives, but with trusting God has our main driver, we get to have the fun of taking the passenger’s seat and just enjoying the ride! After all, we weren’t ever created to have to handle life by ourselves! We were designed to be taken care of by our Father!
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.“– Psalm 20:7
So, ask yourself, what areas of your life are you still grasping tightly onto your pen?
