In a world that preaches prosperity, wealth and good health, the essence of the true gospel is often undermined and overlooked. But why should it be, when the gospel message is so incredibly powerful? And how does the answer relate to the entirety of how we should be walking with God in our daily walk as young women of the Word?
It is often at this point, that I’d insert some culture-relevant situation that you can draw parallels from. Perhaps if this was a blog post about encouraging Christian girls to step out of lukewarm Christianity, I would talk about My Fair Lady (for those of you who love Audrey Hepburn) or She’s All That (for those of you who are old enough to have heard of this ‘99 movie with Freddie Prinze Jr.) and pull up a parallel between how both of the main female leads in these two movies were simply ‘culturally uncool’ girls dressed up in ‘culturally cool’ clothes. However, who they were on the inside, never changed, even if what they were on the outside did. I might then go on to say that how we present our identity to the world isn’t a true reflection of what we are truly like on the inside.
But, I’ve decided not to be too culturally relevant today. Instead, let’s let the gospel speak for itself. By itself, it is powerful enough to change lives, to edify hearts and to encourage souls. It doesn’t need flashy lights, a great sound system or a charismatic speaker on stage to make it interesting because it is interesting!

The Well-Watered, Biblical Gospel | Walking with God in Truth
What is the Gospel?
“He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life” — Titus 3:5-7
It’s a simple message, but so incredibly powerful.
It speaks of a Saviour that saves not because of any our own merits, but because of how much His Father loves His creations who are undeserving recipients of His grace. It speaks of a redemption story based not on pride, but on humble love. This is the type of love where our God was willing to walk the Earth and be humiliated on the cross just to save people who did not deserve His mercy. It speaks of the undeserving sinner not being made right through their own imperfect efforts, but made new through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who constantly moulds them into a Christ-like image.
IT IS A MESSAGE THAT HUMBLES.
The biblical gospel isn’t one that needs flashy lights and a great sound system to make it interesting or bring it glory. Rather, it is a gospel that will bring down the prideful and lift up the humble.
For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. — Matthew 23:12
It is a gospel that reminds us that our salvation is not because of anything that we did, but one that we were freely given. It is a gospel that gives us no wiggle room to elevate ourselves above others because our salvation wasn’t earned but given by grace through faith.
Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. — 1 John 5:10-12
So how does knowing the biblical gospel shape our daily walk with God? And what is the importance of walking with God each day?
How Does the Gospel Story Relate to Our Daily Walk with God?
Why was it that she didn’t take the gospel in all of its entirety and let it heal her very soul? Why did she find it necessary to run to a watered-down gospel for truth and happiness? And how did choosing to believe in a watered-down gospel affect her daily walk with God? 👇👇
I’m incredibly imperfect. So much so that there have been many moments in my life where I can’t help but give the broken girl in the mirror a good ol’ shake.
By believing a gospel that wasn’t based on biblical truth, but on human wisdom, we no longer walk with God, but walk in step with a fabricated ‘god’ made up by our own minds to suit our own personal needs and desires. And that fabricated ‘god’? They’re nothing more than ourselves elevating ourselves to the status of something to be worshipped.
WHAT DOES THE GOSPEL TRULY PROMISE?
The true biblical gospel doesn’t promise good health and wealth like the prosperity gospel. The true biblical gospel doesn’t use God’s name to promise its believers that they will be guaranteed an easy life of being blessed materially. Rather, the true biblical gospel warns us that the moment we pick up the cross and we choose to accept the grace that our Creator has extended out to us, we will most definitely face a life of hardships, trials and temptations.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33
Instead, we are told that walking with God each day means facing difficulties, persecution and hardships. This might come in the form of financial struggles, grieving the loss of loved ones, feeling ostracised by the culture around us etc. but we are given hope.
Our daily walk with God is filled with joyous hope and celebration despite all these things coming our way. This is because we can still always have peace… for our Lord Jesus Christ has overcome the world!
What Does it Look Like to Walk with the Lord and What is the Importance of Walking with God?
When we use the biblical gospel as our guide for our daily walk with God, we know that in order to truly be walking with God, we won’t be able to expect an easy, breezy life. Rather, we will be called to pick up our cross and give up worldly pleasures while we wait for the day our God returns for us…
“For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope — the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. — Titus 2:11-14
THE HOLY SPIRIT WILL DWELL WITHIN US AND CHANGE OUR HEARTS
Walking with God in line with the gospel means that we will continue to invite the Holy Spirit to dwell within us and change our heart, mind and soul. Walking with God means that we will continue laying down our very life in devotion to the One who created us and calls us by name. It means feeling so overcome by the undeserved grace and mercy of our God that we desire to spread God’s love and light to others because we want them to also be able to experience the good news.
WE CAN REST IN PEACE KNOWING THAT ALL THINGS CAN HAVE A GOOD PURPOSE
When we walk with God, while each day might not be easy, we rest in comfort knowing that all things are made possible. It gives us peace and assurance in our every day that walking with God means that He is sovereign and in ALL things, He uses for the good of those who love Him. (Romans 8:28). We are comforted because even though the trials that we face are painful and give us heartache, the victory of Christ allows us to endure anything.

5 Tips on How to Begin Walking with God Every Day
Tip #1 on How to Begin Walking with God: Dive Deep into Scripture
The Bible is the infallible, inspired Word of God. It is the best resource to draw from to help us walk in line with the gospel. There are so many false teachers and preachers… many of whom are excellent at disguising themselves are true gospel preachers. They appear to spread righteousness when in actual fact, they are darkness masquerading as light.
For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve. — 2 Corinthians 11:13-15
Without knowing the Word of God really well, it is so easy for us to begin walking wayward and believing things that aren’t in line with God’s Word. Learning discernment is an important aspect of ensuring that our walk with the Lord is not tainted by false gospels, but one that is in line with His ultimate will.

Tip #2 on How to Begin Walking with God: Find and Pour Into a Community of Believers
Certainly, there are a lot of people who believe that they can worship God well through the comfort of their own homes. However, we are called to be in community with one another so that we can continue to profess our faith together as a body of Christ.
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. — Hebrews 10:23-25
Every single member of a church is like a different part of a body. They each have a special and unique function. A head by itself is not as resourceful and useful as when it has eyes, a nose, mouth and ears. So likewise, when we are in a community of other believers, we can spur each other on our spiritual walk with the Lord and “as iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another” (Proverbs 27:17) we can have accountability and encouragement to help us continue walking with God in a Christ-honouring way.

Tip #3 on How to Begin Walking with God: Have Your Life Revolve Around the Lord
So often, we put so much emphasis on what is convenient for us.
Really, why else would paywave, 5G cellular data and automatic cars exist if not to satisfy the consumer’s hungry desire for things to be made faster and more convenient for them?
But even though this goes against a very self-centered culture, rather than walking with the Lord in a way where God somehow fits into our very busy schedule, how about we begin having biblical priorities that make God at the centre of our lives? Instead, let’s begin orbiting around God and spend time with God in a way that actually honours Him.
Blessed is the man… whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. — Psalm 1:2
One easy tip? Forgo checking your phone first thing in the morning, and instead, spend that time in prayer, praising God for the blessings in your life and spending time in scripture … meditating on His Words so that you can put on His armour of truth.
Tip #4 on How to Begin Walking with God: Having the Faith that Saves Us By His Grace
Faith isn’t simply believing that God is real. For even Satan believes that God is real. Faith is professing the belief that only Jesus Christ has the ability to save you. It is acknowledging that it is only by His grace that you are saved. When we truly believe in this, we are inviting the Holy Spirit into our lives and allowing the Holy Spirit to begin changing our hearts so that we become more like our Creator.
But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder. You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? — James 2:18-20
So are we saved by our works?
The answer is no.
But, when we begin walking with God, good works is still something that happens. The evidence of true faith can be seen through the good fruit that we bear. The evidence of true faith can also be seen when we wholeheartedly repent of our sins and proclaim our need for a saviour. However, no amount of good works is enough to cleanse us of our sins. This is where grace comes in. When we have faith, by grace we are saved… So even though we are not good enough, He still loves us enough to save us. His sacrifice on the cross is what ultimately saves us.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” — Ephesians 2:8
Tip #5 on How to Begin Walking with God: Continue to Invite the Holy Spirit to Change You
Walking with God means recognizing that we can’t do anything on our own strength and effort. We can’t be made new by ourselves. Rather, we need the help and support of the Holy Spirit who will continue to change our hearts and minds.
He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, — Titus 3:5
So let us continue to humble our hearts, profess our faith and pray so that we can continue receiving the Holy Spirit to dwell within us and change us from the inside out!
Sometimes getting into a prayer routine can be hard. Work gets in the way. School gets in the way. Kids get in the way. LIFE gets in the way. That is exactly why sometimes staying practical and creating new systems to keep you on track can help with a well-disciplined prayer life. This is where the Daily Prayer Journal printable comes in handy. Deepen your relationship with God through regular prayer by making use of the practical accountability of a prayer journal.

The Truth about Walking with God | The Gospel Doesn’t Need a Flashy Outfit
filed:
Just your 27 year old dental surgeon, writer and creator of Truthfully, Michelle & Girls After Truth. I love creating printables to help encourage, uplift and propel women to take charge of their faith. I hope you leave this space feeling more joy than when you first came in today Xx
Hello my name is Maria,
Even though I’m not a young woman in her 20’s this has been very educational to me. I came to know Jesus, like 6 years ago. All my life I had faith in God but didnt know much about God or Jesus, my faith was more like a pattern that I tried to follow in my life but didnt know God. I was living a life of ideas of God and patterns of religion, rather than a spiritual relationship with Jesus. I lived a life with so many mistakes because I didnt know who I was or what I was supposed to do. I didnt know God and I didnt know myself and I made many terrible decisions.
I thought the way my family was living and our religion was the correct way to be. But I was wrong and I found that out 6 six years ago, when a brother of mine went to jail. I was heart breaking, how could this happen to our “good” family!! Through my brother I met a lady, who started inviting us all to her church of different religion. At first it was hard to go because I felt like I was betraying my religion, but I loved the way this lady loved God and I wanted to feel that Love for God. Honestly it was the best decision I ever made, I broke through all my traditions on religion and continue to do it and got to meet Jesus through the Holy Spirit. There are no words to describe that feeling. But I know that I have a long way to go.
