When He said to come to the foot of the cross, He wasn’t expecting you to come to Him with a list of achievements and accomplishments that you have done (even if it was all in His name). He was simply asking you to come to Him as you are. He doesn’t care if you have a resume that is less than perfect and He doesn’t mind if you have messed up. Instead, He wants you to drop everything you hold close to your heart and just run to Him with open arms. He never meant for you to choose Him after you’ve finished doing everything else. But so often we do and when we do, we are…
Productive but overwhelmed.
Busy but stressed out.
Hardworking but left feeling unloved.
I get it. I really do. And the reason why I am talking about this with you is because I have been you and sometimes I am still you. But to the girl who is constantly on the go… hear this truth…
You aren’t loved by the One who created you for the things that you do for Him. You are loved simply because you are His creation. And the purpose He has for you? It is far greater than simply achieving. It is living with the One who created your purpose in the first place.
So what is it about setting biblical priorities for your life as a busy girl?

Biblical Priorities for Life in a Busy World: The Modern Mary and Martha
If there is to be a moment in the Bible that so purposefully and perfectly captures the struggles of the ‘busy’ girl striving for perfection, it would be the story of Mary and Martha. It captures the way two equally beautiful women dealt with how they received the presence of the Lord differently … and even recently, I was experiencing a new love for their story.
While Martha was busying around, getting her hustle and bustle on trying to serve the Lord and His disciples, and working herself to the ground trying to make everyone feel at home, her sister Mary was simply sitting at the feet of Jesus listening in awe to what He had to say.
From the outside, it is hard not to have sympathy for Martha when she finally loses her cool and sharply asks Jesus to get her sister to get off her lazy bum and help her out. But the answer that Jesus gives Martha in the midst of her distress is more than unexpected…
Jesus told Martha, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one.”Luke 10:41-42
While Martha was being productive, doing things that in the eyes of the world that was considered ‘good’ (because being hospitable and trying to serve the Lord in itself was not a sin)… Mary was the one who was actually carrying out her God-given purpose.

What is Our God-Given Purpose?
Oftentimes, we get distracted from the purpose that God set aside for us… to simply sit at the foot of the cross and spend time with the Father. We begin chasing and striving for this sense of perfection and fulfillment. But the Lord calls us to be still and remain in Him. It is completely impossible to achieve the feeling of purpose, if we don’t spend time trying to know the One who created our purpose.
So to the girl who is stressing over feeling a sense of meaning, achieving perfection, and creating fulfillment in her life, it is time to stop worrying about everything else around you. It is ok to drop your plans if they are getting in the way of simply carrying out your God-given purpose of worshiping and spending time with your Maker. The reason for which you have been created for is far greater than doing well at school or at your job and it is much more important than even trying to achieve things in the Lord’s name.
The reason why the Lord wants you isn’t because of the hustle and bustle and it sure isn’t because of the good deeds that you do for Him. Jesus wants you simply because you are you. It is time to release your grip over your desire for ‘doing’ and relax in His presence. Instead, be still with Jesus. Call out to Him and be silent and still so that He has a chance to speak and be heard.
Why You Struggle So Hard to Set Biblical Priorities for Your Busy Life…
The life in which we live in prioritises busyness. In fact, being productive, achieving and doing things is considered success. To stand still and simply just ‘be’ can be seen as time not well spent. But it is time to stop focusing on all the hustle and bustle around you and start focusing on Him. How are you supposed to live your life and His purpose for you if you aren’t doing the day-to-day with the One who created you?
He never needed or wanted your hustle or achievements. He only ever wanted you. And He doesn’t want to wait until you have finished A, B and C. He wants you in the here and now. Not the you who fakes it until she makes it… and not even the you brings home the trophies. He wants you… the raw, genuine you. He is inviting you to draw closer to Him, grow in authentic relationship with Him and He wants you choose to spend time with Him first… even if there is nothing you have to ask Him for.
It is time to stop being stressed about what happens tomorrow. So let’s start talking about ’em biblical priorities for a busy life … because we all know you’ve got one hustler!

5 Biblical Priorities for a Busy Life…
#1 Spending Time in Prayer, Even When You Have Nothing Much to Say
Imagine how much of a waste our life would be if we didn’t slow down and take time to speak to Him. Just think about how many important conversations and revelations we will miss if we didn’t spend time simply talking to Him… especially in the moments when we aren’t doing all the talking because we are asking something of Him? How much less will we know about our Maker and the truth of our creation and our purpose if we didn’t simply spend time listening to what He has to say?
#2 Sitting at His Feet… Wholeheartedly Waiting on Him
Slowing down our lives is very good, but have you come to Him with an open heart and outstretched hands? Will you finally come to Him without putting a timer on Him? When will you simply sit as His feet without forcing Him to adhere to your schedule? Or impatiently tap your watch and click your tongue? When our God knows that He can only reveal things to Him at the right time …. and how can He do that when we demand Him to do it according to our time?
#3 Delving into Biblical Truths to Nurture Your Soul
How can you live a life driven by purpose if you don’t know the truths that will propel you forward in this life? For example, you are not good just because of your productivity and you are not good because of the accomplishments that you have achieved in His name. In fact, you’re not good at all. But you get to live out the story of the redeemed sinner… the one who God loved so much that He had His only Son die on the cross so that your sins could be paid in full. When we spend all our time hustling, we often forget to feed ourselves with the biblical truths that we need to nurture our souls because our entire foundation had been built on our own success…
#4 Living the Gospel Life that God Has Gifted You
Many people will tell you to live your life a certain way and the world will often tell you to live your life in a way that conforms with society. You will be told that life is all about ensuring tomorrow’s security and succeeding so that you don’t have to worry about tomorrow. But God has something bigger and greater at work, andyou can hustle as much as you want, but if you aren’t living out the gospel life where you know that His sacrifice welcomes you to peacefully rest in Christ… and not via your achievements (even if it is all in His name), then you are missing the point of your purpose.
#5 Embracing Distance From the World to Firm Up Your Foundation in Him
When we spend so much time hustling and bustling in the world, it is so easy for our attention to be simply on what is going on in the physical world around us … and not what is going on in the spiritual world within ourselves. It is hard to notice what is going on in your spiritual life when your energy and focus is pulled in so many other directions. So, taking time off from the world and spending time focusing on strengthening your relationship in Christ and solidifying the foundation on which you stand is exactly what we need to anchor ourselves to truth and peace.

Nothing that you do to keep yourself busy will ever give you the satisfaction and the overwhelming sense of peace that He will give you. He gives you rest when your thoughts want to be anxious. He gives you hope when you face a season that feels impossible to deal with. So, instead of hustling your way through life, through your issues and your worries, simply be in His presence. Sit at His feet and find rest in Him. Talk to Him and seek Him wholeheartedly… because if you don’t seek Him out first, you will miss out on witnessing His beautiful promises unfold.
