When we have God, we have everything. Of course, I am saying this from a highly privileged standpoint. I have working control of both my arms and both my legs. I have everyone in my immediate family alive and well. But, when someone who looks like they have nothing, live like they have everything, it makes the whole “when we have God, we have everything” really true.

Ting’s Testimony

Ting was a quadriplegic and was confined to a life on the bed/wheelchair. With absolutely no control over his arms and his legs, Despite being completely bedridden and needing complete support for even the simplest of tasks, I could sense the Holy Spirit within him.

As a young adult, Wong had gone to Australia to study in a theological seminary. He was passionate for the Lord and “felt very drawn to truly understanding the Bible”. However, in his mid-thirties, Ting was struck by a vehicle as he was cycling on the road. Consequently, he began to live a life of a quadriplegic (paralyzed from the neck down).

We began talking about the Bible and in his excitement for sharing what he had learned over the years, he asked me to pull the table tray over the top of his bed. Craning his neck, he grabbed a rubber pen that was on the table with his teeth and began cocking his head trying to press his favourite Bible App on the touch tablet that was being held up by the books behind.

It took him a good half minute just to pull up the app, but seeing the pure joy that radiated from within him and the lack of any resentment and dissatisfaction in his countenance filled my heart with so much hope. His passion for his faith as he eagerly began trying to tell me about what he had learned during seminary school was so completely evident. It was so clear to me that all Ting wanted to do was to spread the word of God and the hope of Jesus to everyone he met.

What Does it Mean For Us?

This led me to begin wondering, how can someone like Ting, who seemingly has little to nothing live like he has so much? Why can someone like him who lives what many others would consider a ‘half-life’ still thrive with so much spirit?

I began imagining myself to be in his shoes. Would I be as happy as he was? Would I still live with so much hope, joy and peace? It made me realise exactly how strong Ting’s faith in his saviour was and how Ting truly believed that having complete satisfaction and joy in our Creator is truly enough! ☺️💛

In the Book of Truth, the Holy Word, otherwise known as the Bible, it says on countless occasions that it is only through God that we can achieve the kind of true, everlasting joy that will transcend all understanding, so that even when situations are bleak, there will still be light in the darkness! (John 1:5).

When We Have God We Have Everything…

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Psalm 15: 13

“Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything.” – 2 Corinthians 6:10

“The Lord is our shepherd, I shall not want” – Psalms 23:1

So how might we too live a life of complete hope and joy like Ting?

I’m no expert on the subject, but one thing I can genuinely say is that it is only through resting in the knowledge that nothing else can satisfy us other than the one who created us. A heart of discontentment and discouragement will transform to a heart that radiates pure joy, peace and contentment with Christ Jesus.

And King David is honestly one of the best people in the Bible who exhibits this characteristic. I love how amazing of a poet he is and how deep he dives because it speaks so beautifully to my soul! 💛

Through David’s many Psalms, you are carried on this beautiful spiritual journey where you can truly feel the pain he is going through. For example, when David’s family falls apart (Psalm 3) and when enemies wants to harm David (Psalm 13). But time and time again, he never ceases to give praise to the Lord (Psalm 16) and despite some ‘tug-of-war’ action going on at times, King David always comes back to rest in the knowledge that God is his shepherd and so he shall not want! (Psalm 23)

PRAISE and PRAYER

Dear Lord!

So often in life we focus on completely the wrong things to bring us satisfaction and happiness. So often we say to ourselves, “If only this happened, or I had this, I would be content!” But what we completely forget is that you are the only one that can give us true and complete joy and peace! ☺️❤️💕

Thank you Lord for sending us your word that acts as a daily reminder of your goodness, your holiness and your love for us. You are the perfect Father and your reckless, overwhelming and everlasting love for us despite the fact that we don’t deserve it is just proof of your generous spirit. But I pray that we do not take advantage over it and that we will learn to simply grace ourselves with your presence and live a life that pleases you.

I pray that we will stop putting you to the back burner and trying to wrestle with you as we try and do things our own way. I pray that we will continue to realize that you are the only way to genuine joy and that we will stop prioritizing other things in our lives over you.

You are a good God, a loving God, and you fight for your children and never forsake us. And I am so happy to rest in that knowledge alone! 🌸💛
