Haiiiii! Time ticks by so fast, and I am so excited yet again to fill you in on something that has been on my heart! 💕 And if you have stuck around here long enough, you will know how keen I am on tearing down those walls, laying my heart bare and showing you biblical truths that will not only convict you, but encourage you too! 🌻 And I’m gonna let you in on all the juicy goss on how God does not change and what that means for you! x
Change is so hard. Even for the most spontaneous ones amongst us, we crave stability, trust and consistency. We want to know that in a world where we feel alone, afraid and without support, that there is something that we can hold onto.
I always find it so amusing that one of the two only constants in our life is change! No matter who we are and what stage of our life we are in, one thing we can count on is that there are always changes happening! The irony makes me smile.
Does it make you laugh too?
The other thing that we can trust to never change in our lives is the consistency of our Heavenly Father and loving Creator. And how can you not dance around the living room about the God who does not change His mind? 😍
How good is it that the Lord does not change? It means that while everything in our life moves to and fro, we can believe that God’s love does not change, God’s character does not change and that He totally and completely forever unchanging. In a world where we feel so totally out of control, we can take comfort in the one thing that anchors us and gives us hope and encouragement… a God that does not change. In fact, He quite literally is a God that cannot change!
But my heart breaks for the girl who anchored herself onto things of this world that were bound to change… and often in ways she did not hope or expect. Her looks, her friends, her career, her relationship, the approval of others. Whatever it was, I want to give that girl the world’s biggest hug! 💕 I’m so sorry for how broken the world is. I’m sorry that in a world where we get hurt and we hurt others, that there you’ve experienced so much pain and suffering. But I just hope that you keep on reading to find out more about how our God does not change and what encouragement and hope you can get from that too!

Before We Start, Here’s a Little Story about the God who Does Not Change.
You know how much I LOVE to write and build a relationship with you. Relationships have always been my bread and butter. I can’t help it. I cry at a drop of a hat and love diving into things DEEPLY. I’m the kind of girl who doesn’t want to hear that you’ve just been ‘fine’. I want to know the ins and outs of absolutely everything that has been going on in your life. I want to hear and laugh alongside you on the moments that sparked joy in your heart and sit there comforting you during all those times where you hid in the bathroom and cried. And how thankful I am that you are in this journey with me… reading and partaking in one girl’s journey with growing her relationship with God and her desire to dive deep into biblical truths.
How beautiful is it that I get to share life with you? I count myself so blessed!
But with my adoration of meaningful relationships and reciprocal love comes the idol of people. The thoughts and feelings of others when I do not anchor myself to the steady, never-changing Word of God become my source of identity. And what a dangerous place that is to be in when we forget that the things of this world can always change… and when we try to set our anchor onto something that was never built to give us security. So many things are blessings from God that are designed to spark joy and hope to our lives, but they were not created to give us our entirety. The thing that you might be anchoring your identityon as a daughter of God might be a little different, but the same basic truth can be found across them all!
“Oh my stars! How obvious!” You might be thinking to yourself. And you’d be right! How silly we can be that sometimes we forget about the joy that comes with knowing that it is only God is never changing! But thank goodness that even in our blindness, the shining light of the Holy Spirit gives us such great hope and grace!
So God Does Not Change: Why is this Important?
If we could not have confidence that God does not change, then we would have viable reason to fear because we wouldn’t be able to fully trust in Him. We would find ourselves questioning His word and who He is. His consistency in character is a gift from Him to us to reassure us that we do not have to fear. He knows that in a broken world, change can cause anxiety and fear. But we can live with joy founded in the deepest security that God never changes. It is a wonderful testament of His great love for us!
God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?—Numbers 23:19
God’s word never changes. He promises and never fails. And for so many of us who fear being let down, being taken advantaged, mistreated or abused, how comforting it all is that our God doesn’t change!
Why We Can Take Comfort in How God Does Not Changes
The world is always changing. The opinions of others can switch in a blink of an eye. And even the things that seem constant like the mountains around us, are over millennia, subject to erosion and other types of effects that will slowly but surely alter their shape. No matter what it is, over time, all things physical, spiritual, mental, emotional and moral will change.
Whoa! 🤓
Perhaps this is reason itself enough that we are so driven to hang onto something for stability. I know I sure do! But because of sin, and the brokenness of the world that we are in, we tend to try and anchor ourselves onto things that will surely change. It doesn’t matter if it is a romantic relationship, friendship, bank balance, something we own, our own sense of perfection, or something else entirely, we all attempt to find stability in creation rather than our Creator. But we are often let down when we do because everything in creation is subject to change.
But sweet, sweet friend! If we want to find genuine permanence and stability, we have to look past the creation and all of its beauty to the absolute radiance of its Creator. This is because as Scripture tells us, the word of God does not change. He is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). The fact that our Lord is unchanging — that His character and being will not change (Hebrews 1:10-12) — means that He will never stop being good, just, holy and true.
God Does Not Change… So What Does that Mean for Us?
A. W. Tozer wrote, “God never changes moods or cools off in His affections or loses enthusiasm. His attitude toward sin is now the same as it was when He drove out the sinful man from the eastward garden, and His attitude toward the sinner the same as when He stretched forth His hand and cried, ‘Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest’” (A. W. Tozer, The Knowledge of the Holy, p. 60).
Our broken world is filled with sin and rebellion against the Heavenly Creator who in love made us. Our sinful nature have caused us to be separated from His presence. However, despite the fact our sinful nature causes us to be the unfaithful bride, our God is the faithful groom who stands firm, generation to generation. Like 2 Timothy 2:13 says, if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.
Doesn’t that just make you want to sing to the stars and jump on the clouds? ☺️ 💕 Because having a God who does not change His mind is good news for His chosen people because it means that He will not and can not fail in keeping His promises to love us, forgive us and protect us forever (Psalm 46). But this does mean that the Lord will not overlook the sins of unrepentant people. The entire world can trust that the God who is never changing will always be rooted in justice.
Yes, God Does Not Change: How Should We Respond?
#1: We Should in Humbleness Repent to the God Who Never Changes
When we truly know the depths of our brokenness and sin, and how desperately we need the forgiveness and grace of our Heavenly Father, let our knees bow down. We should be lead to a spirit of humbleness when we remember that our God who does not change, promises that all who have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) are redeemed through the sacrifice of His Son. If we had a God who changed, we could not have the full assurance that we are loved and washed anew.
How blessed are we that we can stand in complete confidence that on the final day, that He will not turn us away because of the promises He has made to us? (Isaiah 53) And should this not lead us to humble ourselves and bow down to the great King who had mercy on us? So, shimmy off your fears because it’s time to start waltzing around the living room floors, praising the God who never changes! 😍
#2 We Should Desire to Live a Holy Life Because of the God Who is Never Changing
The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. —Isaiah 40:8
How lucky are we that our God does not change? God’s word never changes, and His word says this…
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do. — James 1:12
When we repent and receive God’s grace, the Holy Spirit which has already started its work in us, will continue to guide us and convict us of areas in our lives where we need the Spirit to point us to repentance and genuine change. But the good news is that God is never changing. Our God is never changing which means God does not change His mind. And because God does not change His mind, we can be fully assured that even when we continue to fall short, that the saving grace of Christ will cover our inequities.
WOWEEEE how awesome is it that God’s love does not change and God’s character does not change? 🥰
However, let us remember that our good works is a sign of our faith. (James 2:14) So don’t stop dancing to the beat of His holy drum and be careful of being lukewarm! But even when we fall short, do not fret or fear because our God doesn’t change and His promises ring true then and now. Simply bow your head in humble repentance and praise the God who is never changing that through the sacrifice of His Son, we can walk in confidence that we are loved and forgiven!

Before you go, have you heard of Dwell?
Dwell helps to engage its listeners by dramatizing the Word of God and adding unique, ambient music. This special Bible app also allows it’s listeners to choose between a range of different unique voices (including both male and female voices). However, the thing about this Bible app is that it is not free.
If you don’t know if the style of Dwell is for you (because the dramatization of His Word just might not be your style), then you can definitely just opt for a free 7-day trial to see if you like it before committing to the $39.99 annual payment (which to be honest, is nowhere as bad as a Netflix or Spotify subscription).
