Let’s be honest. We have all known from the moment we began waddlin’ all over the place with our stubby lil’ legs that we were not enough.
The little neighbor girl next door? They had more friends than you. The other girls at preschool? They had prettier eyes and ‘cuter’ personalities than you. Your siblings? They achieved all those baby milestones faster than you ever did.
And the funny thing is that even though we spend so much time wallowing in our frustration that we don’t live up to the expectations of the world (and that of our own!) it takes so long for so many of us to realize that we were never created to be enough.
Who can even remember a time when you didn’t see airbrushed models on magazine covers and a little pang of insecurity hit your soul? And who else can remember the first time that they got left out by their friends? Then going home that day wondering what you did wrong or why you weren’t good enough for them and then the hurt would kick in.
There are certainly plenty more stories where we realize we aren’t ever enough. And I know that all these stories are really normal for the majority of girls. Seriously, I can’t think of a single girl out there who never doubted their self-worth or compared themselves to the standards that the world set constantly. But it’s time to tell every young girl what I have learned in my 23 short years of life — you will never be enough.
Biblical Truths for the Girl Who Doesn’t Feel Like She is Enough
#1 He Tells You Who You Are
Our whole lives we get told about who we are by people. Whether it is positive affirmations or negative feedback, there is no shortage of words telling us who we are. But when we take in every single word (both good and bad) and hold tight to them as our source of strength and identity, we’re so easily tossed and turned about with the changing winds of people’s fickle opinions.
One moment, someone might say that they love your smiley and cheerful spirit, and with a turn of the head, someone might say that they absolutely detest that your laughs and that your smiles make them cringe. How can two such contrasting opinions exist in the world? So, how can we build ourselves on the foundation of the approval of other humans?
But within every single page of the Bible, you are told of exactly who you are. You are told that you are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14), the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13), worthy of being saved (Romans 5:8), more precious than rubies (Proverbs 3:15) and His chosen people (1 Peter 2:9). And because He has never once shown Himself to be anything but constant, we can rest assured knowing that even when we fail miserably or make a mistake, everything He says about us still holds true.

#2 You Weren’t Created to Deal with Your Hurt Alone
Every time trouble strikes your heart, don’t be afraid or discouraged because you weren’t ever created to lift the heavyweight of the world all on your own. Our strength and our own power was never meant to be enough to deal with the hurt that we carry. In fact, throughout Psalms, David often cried out to the Lord to help him and strengthen him through his difficult seasons of life. And this was a man who had power over an entire nation, had riches and glory falling to his knees humbling himself and praying to God to alleviate his suffering by lending him His mighty hand.
You weren’t created to deal with your struggles alone. You were created to lean onto the One who actually does have what it takes to overcome all things (Philippians 4:13). Where you fall short, He has what it takes to lift you up on high.
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. — Isaiah 41:10
#3 You Might Never Be Enough, But You Are Made Enough
To say that we are enough is a super popular belief out there that people are advocating for. Part of the self-love movement, it aims to lift us up and make us feel good about ourselves. And for the most part, there is nothing wrong with encouraging one another (and ourselves!) to be kinder to ourselves and more loving and gracious to ourselves, but when this belief seeks to elevate our status and state of being above the cross, it is dangerous.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new — 2 Corinthians 5:17
When we begin believing that we are enoughexactly the way we are, we begin forgetting the fact that we actually aren’t enough. And that the whole reason why we needed Jesus to die on the cross for us was that we weren’t enough. But, because of how much you needed that perfect sacrifice to take your imperfect place… all so that you could be made enough. Being enough isn’t something that you can achieve on your own, but something that you are given freely by the One who loves you and calls you by name.

#4 You Were Created for More than Just Being ‘Enough’
If there is anything that we struggle with as girls, it is the endless need and desire to be perfect for the world. We wear outfits and do our hair in hopes that we will be pretty enough. We carry ourselves and present ourselves in a way that makes us look smart enough for the job we want. And we do everything in our power to please the people around us — even if it is toxic because we just hope that we would be seen as good enough for them and feel wanted. But we will always fall short. Because no matter how hard we try, there will always be another girl out there who is prettier, smarter and all around more ‘enough’ than you.
But we weren’t created to simply be enough for this world. In fact, we weren’t ever created for this world. We were created to laugh and smile with joy as we walk through life together with the Lord and to praise Him for His love and perfection. We were created to praise a God who knows your darkest flaws, your hidden secrets, your less than perfect looks, your bad grades, your awkward habits and says, “you’re fully seen and fully loved by me”.
Hey girlie! Before you go, are you looking for a new Bible App?
You might want to try out Dwell.
Dwell helps to engage its listeners by dramatizing the Word of God and adding unique, ambient music. This Bible app also allows it’s listeners to choose between a range of different unique voices (including both male and female voices). However, the thing about this Bible app is that it is not free.
If you don’t know if the style of Dwell is for you (because the dramatization of His Word just might not be your style), then you can definitely just opt for a free 7-day trial to see if you like it before committing to the $39.99 annual payment (which to be honest, is nowhere as bad as a Netflix or Spotify subscription).
If you would like to give this app a go, then download it here or click the image below…

Biblical Truths for the Girl Who Doesn’t Feel Like She is Enough
filed:
Just your 27 year old dental surgeon, writer and creator of Truthfully, Michelle & Girls After Truth. I love creating printables to help encourage, uplift and propel women to take charge of their faith. I hope you leave this space feeling more joy than when you first came in today Xx
This is a MUCH needed post for women everywhere in this day and age. I think feeling like we are not enough is one of the most prevalent lies that women fall prey to. Thank you for taking time to let the Holy Spirit speak to us through your beautiful post … ❤
Hi! Thank you so much for writing this extremely relevant piece! I relate to everything you wrote. I am thankful that God knows every part of us and has made us enough.
It’s such a sad state that we as women always had to worry about not being good enough, pretty enough or the right size. But you’re absolutely right. Jesus died for us and when we accept His free gift, that makes us daughters of the most high God of the universe. We could never again say it or think we’re not good enough. Thank you, Jesus for loving us that much.
Wow! This is very good post for people of all ages, but I can see how it can resonate with younger women. It’s life changing when we know the truth that we are enough in Christ. You made incredible biblical points. God bless your ministry. I hope it reaches many young and old women of God.
“you weren’t ever created to lift the heavyweight of the world all on your own” —- I love this! Thank you for such an encouraging post and for reminding us to focus on what God says about us.
This is such a beautiful truth. I often tell my kids not to feel discouraged if they do not fit in, because we were not made to fit in. We also have to remember that God does not make mistakes. We were fearfully amd wonderfully made by Him. Blessings, Joni
I think so many of us can relate to this so much! We are enough in Christ, He made us this way! But it is hard when society floods in with what they say is “to be enough”
This post reaffirms who we are in Christ and I absolutely love it! It’s true we will never be enough in and of ourselves but by the grace of God, we are more than enough. Hallelujah!
I certainly do remember having these very insecurities when I was a young girl. They still linger, but don’t have the same power they used to, thankfully. Now, I deal with not being a good-enough mother. It’s a different state of life, but I think much of what you say here applies to me!
Thanks for this encouragement! In our own right, we are enough to deserve respect and dignity from others, an image bear created with holy potential. When we find our identity in Christ, the “enoughness” of God abounds in our life and covers every one of our gaps! And like you said, we are then made enough to walk in spirit and in truth, keeping step with our Creator!
I so appreciate your take on this because as you said, we will never be enough, and that’s the beauty of it! I also really love number two, that we aren’t meant to deal with our hurts alone. Thank you for all the thought and prayer that went into this post! It’s very encouraging.

I love creating printables that help encourage, uplift and propel women who want to take control of their faith and live a set-apart life for the Maker who knows their heart.
I adore tea, all shades of pastel and watching the sunset. I hope that you will relish in the beauty of every moment and find joy in the smallest of things. I pray that you will be able to find true satisfaction in Christ alone and that you will be able to rejoice in the goodness of the Lord whatever season of life you are in.

Cinnamon spiced lattes, puppies with bows and watercolour paintings are just some of my favourite things. However, above all, I’m just a lover of Jesus and people. So let’s live with joy that set-apart life that God has created us purposefully for together. For He is the One who calls you by name and has loved you from the beginning of time! ❤️

I have seen similar posts to this but I have to say I liked your 4 headings – slightly different way of tackling this subject.
