I remember having late-night conversations with this friend who believed that God didn’t care about her. She was a lovely girl, extremely clever, hardworking, and very loving to her family. She had been raised in a Christian family and had so many things going for her, but being a girl who placed so much emphasis on her achievements, she often felt marginalized, overlooked and mistreated by God when He chose not to give her something that she worked so hard for. With this, she couldn’t see the point of believing in a God that just didn’t appear to care about her. Every time she was rejected by something she worked so hard for, she felt like it was a direct snub from an uncaring God. After all, shouldn’t God give her things that she deserved and wanted?
To this friend, I love her because at the end of the day, we are all just girls who go through the difficulties of life together! Neither one of us is perfect, but we can serve and rejoice in a God that is. There is nothing that I hope for more than for than true joy to touch her heart so that the wounds of her adolescence can begin to heal and I hope she one day realizes she is so much more than her achievements. She has been bought and purchased by our Heavenly Father with a costly sacrifice when she did not deserve it. How could a God who didn’t care about you make a sacrifice so great?
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. — Romans 5:8
While you might not necessarily have the exact same struggle, if you’re reading this blog post, there is a good chance that you feel like God doesn’t care about you… and if that is the case, let me show you how that is simply not true and some ways you might be able to overcome the lies that your mind has been feeding into.

Popular Reasons Why You Feel Like God Doesn’t Care About You and Biblical Proof It Isn’t True
There is a good chance that what I am about to say will strike an angry chord with you… and I am sorry.
Nothing that I say or do in this blog post is meant to hurt you! But I don’t want to give a diluted gospel message that does nothing to help heal the wounds of your heart or a sugarcoated pep talk laced with words that will only help create a bigger problem… 😔
I want to show you love by being faithful to the one thing that has the ability to help you. I want to be your cheerleader and remind you that you are so loved, so seen and so precious in the eyes of your Maker! There is nothing I want more than to see you living your best life! 💛 I want to encourage you when you are down, and jump up and down with you when you are happy because I care about you. I know the words that I say might make you feel otherwise, but know that I am here with you in your time of tears… because I have been there… and I speak from experience too. 💕✨
#1 We Believe God is Witholding Good Gifts That We Deserve
Perhaps you are like my friend and have felt rejected, overlooked or maybe even punished by God because He hasn’t given you something you feel like you deserve. After all, if He sees your blood, sweat and tears from endless prayers and all your hard work and effort, shouldn’t He give you what you want? But when we take a really sobering look at ourselves, we realize that we don’t actually deserve a thing.
“Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, those who are nothing but potsherds among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?’ Does your work say, ‘The potter has no hands’?
What right do we have to tell our Maker what to give us? What right do we have to complain if we see Him bless someone else with the very thing that we want? This concept of we don’t ‘deserve’ anything because it goes against the very fabric of human nature. We are naturally prideful, so we struggle to come to terms with the fact that we live and breathe is a gift that we do not deserve.
But, that isn’t to say that God doesn’t like to give us bless us with good things!
If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!— Matthew 7:11
And if He doesn’t give you what you deem as ‘good’, remember this…
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. — Romans 8:28
We need to be careful not to believe the lies that God withholds what is good from those who love Him. Eve believed the serpent that God was withholding something good from her (Genesis 3) when in reality, God was truly protecting her and mankind. Similarly, we will fall down a very slippery slope when we believe the lies that we know what is best for us and that when God is ‘not good’ doesn’t give what we believe is good to us. Anything and everything God does is for the good of those who love Him… and when we know and truly believe in this, we will no longer be able to say ‘God doesn’t care about me’.

#2 We Believe God Won’t Listen to Our Prayers or that He Doesn’t Notice Our Struggles
Closely related to the first point, sometimes we feel completely inconsequential. After all, how can a God of such a big universe pay any heed to the prayers or the struggles of a girl like me? But when we begin to think ‘God doesn’t care about me’, we begin watering down the gospel. It is almost as if the ultimate act of love and self-sacrifice from a loving God who was weeping over the destruction of His people shows nothing about His love and regard for us.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.— John 3:16
Why would the God of heaven and of earth send down His one and only Son to die for His people on the cross so that their debt could be paid (Romans 6:23) if He did not love them? To sacrifice your own perfect, loving Son for those that rebelled against you, reviled you, despised you and mistreated you… that speaks volumes about how much our God does actually care about us. And if there is a God that takes care of even the birds in the sky, how could you believe that God doesn’t care about you?
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?— Matthew 6:26
Knowing that God loves you, how can you doubt that He will hear your cries? While He might always give you exactly what you want (see the first point), He will always work for the good of those who love Him!
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.— 1 John 5:14-15

#1 When You Think God Doesn’t Care About You, Anchor Yourself in Scripture

#2 When You Think God Doesn’t Care About You, Remember the Gospel
When you begin wondering ‘why doesn’t God help me’ or ‘does God really care about me’, remember the gospel. Remember the truth of a loving, self-sacrificing God who sacrificed His perfect, sinless only Son to pay for the sins of those who abused Him, rejected Him and rebelled against Him. Remind yourself that if God didn’t care about you, you wouldn’t have been able to proclaim that you have a Heavenly Father who loved you so much that He gave Him only Son to die on the cross for you!
#3 When You Think God Doesn’t Care About You, Pray to Him About It
It is natural for us to want to ignore the thing that we think doesn’t care about us. However, bring your concerns and fears to God and let Him handle them for you. And if you really want to kick it up a notch, tell trusted people in your church to pray for you too! Because nobody is better at solving a problem, even if the problem is about them, than God Himself!
Sometimes getting into a prayer routine can be hard. Work gets in the way. School gets in the way. Kids get in the way. LIFE gets in the way. That is exactly why sometimes staying practical and creating new systems to keep you on track can help with a well-disciplined prayer life. This is where the Daily Prayer Journal printable comes in handy. Deepen your relationship with God through regular prayer by making use of the practical accountability of a prayer journal.

#4 When You Think God Doesn’t Care About You, Praise Him
This is probably the opposite of what you want to do if you feel like God doesn’t care about you, but when we begin actively thinking of all the things that He has done for which we can praise Him for, we are reminded that God is good. It is so easy for us to dwell on all the things that we feel like He hasn’t done for us and begin spiralling down a hole of ‘God doesn’t care about me’ when we fall into self-victimising patterns. So begin praising Him… to remember exactly why you can boldly proclaim that you serve a God that does care about you!
#5 When You Think God Doesn’t Care About You, Let God Give You Strength
You might want to try and figure it all out yourself, but rather than try and solve things yourself using your own strength, let God carry you through with His strength. It can be tiring to fight this battle by yourself and it can feel like you are without support, but just like what King David sang in Psalm 23, ‘the Lord is my Shepherd, I lack nothing’. So let Him provide and give you strength!
